New D620 Launch?
Hey folks,
I just wanted to ask if anyone had any information on the possibility of a update to the current D610 in the near future? The reason is we are looking to replace our current C640 laptops which are coming round to 3 years now with new ones and I wondering if its worth hanging back for a possible D620, or just buy a bunch of 610's? Does anyone have any information on when the D620 will become available, possible spec?
Any info would be of great help, I currently trying to contact our Dell Account Manager, but just thought i'd post here also...

Got a call from my sales rep at Dell and they informed me that the "build" time on a D620 is 31 days (as in business days - approx 1.5 months), but he could switch me to a D820 with the same or better specs for less money AND a build time of 16 days.
So I switch to a D820, switched to the 120M Nvidia card (which he said will NOT delay it at all) and it came to a little bit less than the D620. Keep in mind that it comes with the 9 cell battery (I was only getting the 6 cell with the D620) and the 90w adapter and I was getting the 45w adapter with the D620.
I stuck with the WXGA+ (1680 X 1024) resolution, which is my favorite.
I'm just hoping I'm content with the form factor and weight. Comments?

Just came in to work today and found an email from our Dell Rep informing me that D620's with the NVidia option have been pushed back to a July Delivery date, and if i want it sooner they can swap to Intel Graphics or the D820...

I've decided to opt for the Intel Graphics over the 820, I know this may seem strange to some, but we don't use the features of the nVidia card anyway as this is strictly a business machine for me. We have workstations to handle the 'graphic intensive' apps. plus personally i'm not keen on the extra weight/size, I've also spec'd our D620 with the 9 cell battery too..
I have a question though, what benefits do you get with the 90w adapter over the 45... (apart from the obvious!) Does the extra wattage help drive external devices or...

it takes Dell approximately 7 minutes to build a PC or Laptop....
And the do only built if ordered, so there must be some delivery problems. or technical probs?

Works fine, looks ok, feels much more rigid than the old Inspiron 8000 series plastic machines. Keyboard is a disappointment, its not very silent and somehow the feeling is not right. I like D410 keyboard more.

My D620 + Nvidia card is still ETA April 26. It closing in but still is only in preproduction so I do not have my hopes up...

I think you get yours earlier depending on the spec, i.e. the less 'options' you have the sooner you get it. I got told the other day by our Dell rep that they are 'safe testing' them so that's the reason for the long lead times....
just hope it's worth the wait, although my current C640 is getting a bit tired..:smileyhappy:
