problem with power adapter and connection at laptop back.

From sometime now I am having this problem. The power cord end that goes into the laptop seems to have a problem because the laptop not always is receiving electricity. I have to keep pushing, moving, jacking, stretching it, until the battery icon switches to "AC".  I don't know who to blame: a partially severed power adapter cable or something more such as the jack and connection of the laptop.

I can't test my adapter with another dell, because I'm the only one with this brand. My system is a C810.

Any clues?

Thanks,

Hi,

The adapter is a place to start, look at it carefully. Does it feel hot at the plug, or look as though it has melted near the pins ? This is a sign of a high resistance connection which will need the socket and adapter replaced. Often the cables can fracture near the plug, from being pushed against things when plugged in. A new adapter is the fix for this.
