steel tape of 3 feet done all the harm possible, and more.
Sorry Art, but there were not a SINGLE measumerment workable for my calculations, or even close to being right.
33.3 mm wide screen??? Are you telling me you have less than 1.5 inches of screen width for your lovely machine?
It's very hard to measure 0.05 mm border thickness with a steel 3 feet tape, it's nearly impossible. I can only assume it was 0.5 mm. But my question basically was where those borders occur? Sides or top/bottom? That's what important. If they are visible all around, which are thicker, again, sides or top/bottom?
I wonder what your 3-feet tape was fractioned in? It can't be inches, because in inches, your measurment are wrong all over, again.
Where do you live, do you guys have any school rulers in made in millimeters and not in feet, or yards, please?

Ratio is 16:10 0r 8:5 (non 'wide screen' standard ratio is 8:6)

Beg your pardon, just don't think metric at all.
Tape was "[ten feet / three meters]" probably should have said 305 centimeters or 3048 millimeters?
As for a ruler, I do have one, but it is only about 15.4 CM, (should you say 15CM 4MM?)
Anyway I was surprised to see this cheap old tape in the drawer marked in inches to the 32nd on one edge
out to 6 inches and then 16ths all the way to 118 + 5/16 ("+ 2 in. For the case").
The lower edge is marked 1-10 X 10 X 30 (plus "50mm for the case") no mention of CM but I'm sure you
could tell that is what I should have used instead of mm. So 33.3 CM = 13 5/32" as best as I can see:)
Your assumption of a half a mm is correct, this edge is equal all the way around.
It is quoted as a "15.4 screen and has less area than my Sony VAIO's 15" XGA did, but it has
three times as many pixels.
Sorry to screw you up so bad but when I saw your question ignored, thought I would do
the best I could with it. It would be a benefit to have fonts that work with these
displays, as your suggestion of upping the dpi runs into problems with a lot of programs.
Mentioning "Clear Type" there is a utility now with MS Power Tools that does it like an
eyeglass prescription exam, "This look better than this?" etc. I will get my
prescription filled tomorrow:)
50 years ago, they promised we would convert to the more logical metric,
we are a lot less than half way there.
One thing I did have close to right, 1200/1920 X 16 = 10 or 8:5

Only one thing is better: a 201 dpi IBM 22" T221. But for a cost of circa $7300, duh!. Plus, you would need a 4-head Matrox at $2400, to drive that ueberdisplay.
As for some fonts not good enough for dpi 150, these need to extinguished from the system, and there should be tweaks somewhere in Windows tweaking forums of how to do it systemwide. A better solution would be using newest Longhorn system fonts, namely Candara, Consolas, Constantia, Corbel, plus 2 or 3 other very finely hinted fonts, -- these might be available at the forums of amateur Longhorn beta testers, from the latest betas. Or look for sytem fonts of Mac OS X Tiger, these are very nice at dpi > 130, too.
(Meanwhile, looking for a refurb no-dead-pixels WUXGA Dell Lat D800/Inspiron 8600 for a $800 to $999, I'm in love with this machine ;))
