Why does it take so long to box?

I ordered my Inspiron 700m over the weekend, and the order processing, pre-production kitting, building, and testing phase was quick (less than 1 day).

Now my order seems to be stuck in "boxing". It's been "boxed" for the past three days.
How much time do they need to put a laptop into a cardboard box???

Does anybody have a similar expeience?

It's more likely that they have not updated where your order is up to on their website.

I have the same problem I ordered an Inspiron 9300, and all the phases of production were completed in one day except for boxing, it has been at this phase for about two days

Has yours shipped yet?

According to the order status:

"Once the Boxing is complete, the system box is sealed and placed on the appropriate truck for shipment to our customer."

They're probably still waiting for the "appropriate truck" to arrive. *shrug*

Well that changes the picture a little. But they should have an additional phase in there, such as "transporting to distribution center" instead of "boxing" which is misleading.

BTW, why don't they just ship from the Malaysian plant? I know Apple ships their products from Shanghai, China directly to the customer.

Apple offers very little in the way of configurability - they have a few fixed configurations, a single warranty plan, etc. - vs. Dell's multiple screen choices, choice of two OSes, warranties from 90 days-4 years, etc.

I have the same thing going on. I ordered my 700M on the 21st of July and Dell told be that my order would ship on or about 1 August but when you check the web site it shows that the unit is in testing phase (and has been for 2 days)Now I don't mind if they test the living daylights out of the unit. but I still don't understand 10 days from order to delivery. It went through order processing, pre-production kitting, building in one day.
So I am stuck as are you..
