Wont Load Driver

I had a sector crash on my Inspiron 3700 and after I did a scan disc, I lost my network support. So, I've tried re-installing the drivers. No luck. Re installed Windows.. No luck.... I see a Texas instruments PCI-1225 Card Bus Controller in the device list, infact, two of them show up after a normal Win98 install.

I have a 3Com Etherlink III 3C599D-TP, which I've installed before on this machine with great success. I have the drivers for this card on a disc, which I have installed as well as used the default that is on the Win98CD for this same card.

After adding the network adapter and using the drivers for the 3Com Etherlink III 3C599D-TP the driver appears on the network section of control panel. I reboot and it is gone. I look under System in Control panel and I see an error.. a Code 2 error. Devise Status is" The NDIS.VXD,NTKERN.VXD device loader(s) for this device could not load the device driver.(Code 2).

I've removed and replaced the device. I've done the Update Driver routine and well, no network connection yet.

Ideas?

I remember having this issue before.  Go to add/remove programs and click on Add/Remove Windows components> check box  Add Networking services.

then try the following:

There's a Run command in 98 that I can't remember that verifies that all your 98 files are intact and if not the command can reload them...

I think it's SFC.EXE or SFC Type either of these 2 command from Start > Run

If your'e missing files this exec will recopy them back.

Do the above before trying to install the network adaptor.

Good Luck
