XPS 1640 max ram supported

Hi,

I bought 2 slot of Corsair CM3X4GSD1066 to upgrade my 1640 to 8gb, but when I start the laptop three lights (mute, volume down and volume up) are on and volume down blinks. What does it mean?

Does the motherboard support 8gb? Are the sticks bad?
