AC adapter for Dell E-Port PRO2X
I have dock station Dell E-Port PRO2X without AC Adapter and laptop Dell Lattitude E5420 with AC Adapter PA-2E 65W 19.5V 3.3A
Can I use adapter from laptop to supply dock station or I need original PA-4E 130W 19.5V 6.7A adapter?

@Nikles75 You can try it and you won’t damage anything, but I don’t think it will work properly. Those docks are meant to have at least a 130W power source (or even higher when using certain laptops with very high power requirements), so using a power source with half that amount of wattage might not work. Unless maybe you have a laptop that is only designed for a 45W source, in which case you might get lucky. But if your laptop is designed for a 65W source, the problem will be that the dock reserves some power capacity to run its own electronics and power any USB peripherals you might plug into it, which means it doesn’t pass the full capacity through. That’s why docks need to have power supplies with more capacity than just what the system is meant to have.

@Nikles75
The reason the dock needs the 130W is to power both the dock and the laptop.

Hi
I have acquired an Eport Pro2x to run a Precision 7710. The Precision 7710 requiring a 240W power supply.
I assume I will need two power supplies one for the E port and my laptop power supply,.

@Justdesygn
Try asking your question in the Workstations forums. That is for questions for Precisions.

@Justdesygn No, just plug the 240W power adapter into the E-Port dock. The next Dell power supply size up would be 330W, and I don’t remember the E-Port docks ever being sold with 330W power supplies, even when ordered for Precision 7000 Series systems. And using a Precision 7000 Series system didn’t require using two power supplies. Dual 240W power supplies would be completely overkill since the dock on its own definitely doesn’t require anything near that amount of power.

Can a 180 watt ac power adaptor be used in place of a 130 watt ac power adaptor for use in a E Port Plus model Pro2x?
