This kinda sounds like a bad jack connection. Maybe there is some debris or lint stuck in the jack socket. Well, it is more typical for smartphones, but you never know. I would try to carefully clean it with a toothpick.
I thought it was the audio jack too but it happens on bluetooth for me.
Odd thing is, if I receive an audio notification from another app, the audio sounds fine for a few seconds and then goes back to sounding like the audio is playing in a big room
