Avoid Latitude 3190

Just a warning to all who are considering Latitude 3190. If you go to Dell's site, and shop for Laptop for Work, it is one of the option. However it is not of the same class as the rest of the Latitude series. Please avoid the Latitude 3190. And here is why.

After receiving my Latitude 3190 via mail, I started to notice that the internal battery drop from 100% charge to 0% in about 2 days with laptop poweroff. At first, I thought it was caused by Windows hybrid sleep shutdown and fast start mechanism, so I turned off fast start and hibernation all together. Also making sure I always do a full shutdown. However, the problem persisted, and the laptop continued to drop charge completely from 100% to 0% in 2 days. So I tried everything I could to fix the situation, including upgrade BIOS, drivers, and Windows 10 to 1903. Nothing helped.

Finally, I charged up the 3190 to 100% and disconnected the battery cable and did a full shutdown. After 10 hours, I reconnected the battery cable and powered it on. Miraculously, the battery still had 100% of battery charge. So the problem is not the battery but with the laptop itself.

Knowing that, I proceed to contact Dell support about the problem. But then the support experience turns out to be a even bigger problem.

Support repair number 1 -->

I opened a case with Dell Support and explained to them what is happening and mailed in my Latitude 3190 for repair. Dell Repair center replaced the "laptop battery" and sent it right back to me. Of course it did not fix anything.

Support repair number 2 -->

The second time, I have a much longer dicussion with the Dell support tech and trying to give them as much information as I could so that the Dell technician could work on the correct issue. I asked for an exchange fearing that my Latitude 3190 is in fact a lemon. The Dell support tech assured me that Dell repair center will replace the motherboard, and if that does not fix the issue, they will issue me an exchange. So I dutifully sent my Latitude back to Dell Depot. And that leads to...

Support repair number 3 -->

I received my laptop from Dell Repair Center, and according to the Dell support tech I called after receiving the repaired laptop, all Dell replaced was the "battery power cable". Obviously Dell did not test the result of the repair. I received my laptop with 0% battery charge. It was drained during the shipment. They did not replace the motherboard as promised and refused to give me an exchange. The only option they gave me is sending my 3190 in another so-call "repair". They promised again they would replace the motherboard.  But they added this final word:

"Please note: our depot technicians will offer you a system replacement if necessary and if the device cannot be repaired anymore."

Does that mean Dell could endlessly replacing the wrong part and not fixing the problem and refusing me an exchange?

I don't know?

So here is my advise, Latitude 3190 itself could lemon, please avoid it. Even if it is not, you might experience the same Dell Support service I experienced and you will never get your Latitude 3190 fixed.

So sad... this is how Michael Dell threats his customers..
