Battery Health Status - Communication Error

I recently had an issue with my battery when I plugged in the ac adapter and instead of charging, it was instead plugged in but not charging. I've tried all the possible solutions online such as removing my battery and draining the residual power and even uninstalling the battery drivers and installing them but none of the solutions worked. The AC Adapter works fine but once I remove the adapter, the system shuts down. Please advice on what to do before replacing the battery.

Please list Dell model number and version of windows. Example: Dell Inspiron 3543, windows 10

If you don't know, type msinfo32 onto search box, stroll down to System Model, you should see it now.

In meantime, I suspect the battery has failed and need replacement. Just to be sure here, check the status of the AC adapter in BIOS by following the steps below.

Note: If AC adapter isn't detected in BIOS, computer will continue to received power but will not charge battery.

1. Power off system

2. Power on system, quickly start tapping F2 key continuously to get into BIOS menu.

The AC adapter should say it's type. If the adapter says Unknown or None then it's issue with the adapter, DC Jack or mainboard.

By the way, what is the communication error ? Does the error say:

- The battery is not installed. error code  2000-0131

- The battery is reaching the end of its usable life. error code 2000-0132

- The battery cannot provide sufficient power. error code 2000-0133

A flashing amber (orange) light usually indicate battery has failed and needs replacement. AC adapter saying it's type(240) indicate nothing is wrong with the adapter or DC Jack. Please reseat battery to make sure battery has indeed failed:

Note: View battery removal in the computer manual to see if you're comfortable reseating battery.

SmackzT

Any updates ? You ran Dell Diagnostic to check battery health? You reseated the battery to see if it will make any difference? If yes, and there's no difference, amber light still brinks, remove battery again and run only AC adapter power. Check to see if there's no blinking light?

Hi, I just ran the Dell Diagnostic like you said and got the error code 2000-0132. It says my battery is reaching the end of its usable life. Do I just buy a replacement battery? How would I know which one to buy? Thank you in advance!

Yes, you do need a new battery reyesryan723.

The battery specification is in your Dell Product Support Documentation. Just click on the link below and select your Dell model number. After, select Documentation in your Support page and then stroll down to Specification.

I would suggest checking Dell Battery & Adapter in link below to see if  there's a battery in stock.
