Battery policy
I'd like to get a (new) Latitude 15" 3550 but Dell don't show a replacement battery and won't reveal a battery model number without a tag number. If Dell intend to fit different batteries to different 3550s then 3rd parties may not think it worthwhile making different batteries and 3550s will be prematurely junked. Can anyone shed light on this please?

OEM batteries for your system. If you're outside the US, use the Dell part number to search locally.

@ejn63 Thanks but Dell (UK) won't tell me the part reference. (For the old Latitude 3550 I gather it was TRHFF.)

Use the service tag at dell.com/support -- it will list the battery. Or remove the base cover and check - it'll be on the battery label.

@ejn63 I haven't bought one yet, I don't have a TAG number, I can't get any support, I don't know the battery type.

There are two different sizes of battery - 3-cell and 4-cell. You'll need to know which you need before ordering a battery, so you'll need that information from your seller. The batteries are generally not interchangeable -- you can't fit a 4-cell battery to a system that ships with a 3-cell battery (but the reverse is doable) -- so if you're ordering "blind", buy the 3-cell 3550 battery.
