Connecting and using two laptops with one dock

Hi,

I have two dell laptops (Latitude 7420 & Inspiron 7420) which I would like to use with a single dock (Dell WD19TBS).

Is there a possibility to use the dock which has all the peripherals attached (monitor, webcam, headphones etc) to connect to the two laptops via switch? Essentially it will be a 1 x USB C splitting to 2 x USB C with a selector to switch between the two outputs. I do not need to power both laptops at the same time.

I searched for this scenario but couldn't find any solution. Any guidance will be much appreciated.

Many thanks

You won't be able to connect two systems to a single dock simultaneously -- but you can switch between them using a USB switch.

There are many options available depending on your specific needs and budget.

hi @ejn63,

many thanks for the reply.

As you rightly point out, I do not wish to run both laptops via the same dock simultaneously. All I trying to do is share the dock between the two laptops to minimise the number of wires around them as I only need one laptop to be connected to the dock at a time.

I think as the thunderbolt cable from the dock also delivers power, I havent see any splitters or switches which will help with sharing the dock between the two laptops. Any pointers would be much appreciated. thank you.
