Could not find valid policy or resource payload

Question

I have a Dell Latitude 7390.The Support Assist tool indicated that I have an urgent update to install, the System BIOS update of June 28, 2019 version 1.10.0. I clicked through the install process and the update got downloaded. However during the actual installation, it failed with the above error - "could not find valid policy or resource payload".

Subsequently I downloaded the same update from the Dell support site and tried installing that, only to get the same error - "could not find valid policy or resource payload".

Please let me know how I may actually install this BIO update.

Thank you. I suspended BitLocker but that didn't change anything. Same error. Anything else I could try?

Having the same issue trying to update the firmware on my TB16 Thunderbolt USB-C docking station using my Dell Precision 7720 Workstation. I have access to Dell Pro Support. I'll edit this if they can tell me something about this during business hours.

Same thing for me. I get this 'Could not find valid Policy or Resource Payload' message. I'm on a XPS15 trying to install bios upgrade XPS_9570_1.14.0 from the downloaded .exe installer. Bitlocker is disabled. No password is set for Bios access. Anyone with a solution yet?

Welcome to the Dell Community @bubo-swe

First option:

Create a new folder on your desktop named “BIOS Update”

Then download your BIOS update.

Copy the update to that folder you just created.

Close all Windows and Apps you may have open.

Go to the folder and right click on the update file and “Run as Administrator”

Second option:

Create a bootable USB drive using “Rufus”

Copy the BIOS update to the bootable USB drive you just created..

Insert USB drive, power-on and start tapping the “ F12 “ key.

Boot from USB and run the BIOS update.

After reboot test and post any results.

Start a new post with your problem. This is a 2019 post that might not be accurate today. But you may try this.
