Try a known-working optical drive -- the common thread is the CD/DVD reader.

Whenever I put in a larger HD I get a message like no storage device aka HD available??? I tried an 80 and a 100 and a 160 and none are recognized. Are they formatted incorrectly?  Only the 40 is recognized.  Need some help here.

@emonnie

Stopped in my warehouse today and thought I would do an experiment.

First, there is a limitation of 137GB for the HDD.

I tried a 320GB, 250GB and a 160GB HDD and they all were seen in the BIOS as 137GB.

The 120GB HDD was seen as a 120GB HDD.

Have you had any success yet???

My Bios A06 shows at 'primary hard drive'=none available!!!!

Are my HD's formatted incorrectly? I checked with my other 4 puters and they don't recognize them either, of course most are 64bit Win 10's.

@emonnie

The drives I tested were fresh DOD wiped without being formatted.

The BIOS still sees them with no format!!!

Sounds like the drives may be bad???

I received a new 100gig HD and it shows up on the bios just fine, BUT I cannot get my OS to load from the CD drive. Tried several different CD's. XP pro, 2000pro and Win 7 but none would load up. Set the system to run from CD drive first. The drive lights flash and it spins but just sits there. What do I need to do?

Thanks to all for the help.

That was the problem, bad drive. It is now loading Win 2000 Pro. Will later load Win 7 Pro 32 bit. Had it on the 40Gb drive but no more room.

Update on my problem. I got Win7 home loaded, and it is running but no wireless. Cannot figure what card I have. Tried several drivers but none seem to work. Maybe I do not have a wireless card as its been a while since I used it but my old memory says it does. Where is it located?

You found your modem.  Sounds like you don't have a wireless card installed.  You can see in this system, it's in the bottom left with the two antennas connected to it.

Most likely you need drivers for the integrated NIC.  You can try the XP Drivers, or download the Broadcom 57XX Gigabit Ethernet drivers separately.
