Dell Command Update Crash on Launch - Service Disabling Itself

Precision 3560

Precision 3560

Hello,

I am an IT tech helping oversee daily operations in a customer service department. All our end users use Lattitude 7400 2-1 machines.

Very frequently (Multiple times a month, sometimes multiple times for the same user), the Dell Client Management Service will change its status to Disabled and its startup option to Disabled. This causes Dell Command Update to crash on launch. An error dialogue box will appear for a fraction of a second before the application becomes unresponsive. It never passes the splash screen.

The fix for the symptom is simple, the service just needs its startup option changed back to Automatic. However, there is no way to tell when this occurred and only is noticed when a user tries to perform a routine update - only to find the application nonfunctional. Further, due to my organization's policies, we do not have Administrator privileges, so implementing this fix requires a call to our central IT department who then has to remote into the machine and perform the operation. We're not quite frustrated, but definitely annoyed that this occurs so regularly. I've scoured forums online for others experiencing this problem, and was able to find some discussions on it, however they all seemed to be personal computers where the admin privilege wasn't an issue. I'm hoping for any knowledge on the root cause of the issue, any possible resolutions or bandaids to help prevent it from happening. Perhaps something in group policy? Let me know if additional details may be useful and I can try to provide them.

This has also occurred to users with Precision 3560 laptops but seemingly less often.

Thanks,

Vaughn.

To receive assistance from Dell support, they need to verify the warranty status and ownership. Click the "Get help now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. Provide to them the private Service Tag and all of your troubleshooting.
