dell laptop improving speed E5430
got a refurbished Dell E5430.
Recently its getting a little slower takes a while to boot and freezes when adding pictures to facebook.
I think its 12 GB ram so shouldnt have an issues.
Any hints and tips on improving performance? Speed? boot time?
Or is it getting time to buy a new laptop with more RAM. Can I upgrade RAM on here or do anything please?
I am not good at speeding up laptops, normally buy a new one.

If the system has a conventional spinning hard drive, replace it with a solid state drive - that's just about the only thing you can do to speed the system. More RAM will do little or nothing - but an SSD vs a hard drive will be day vs. night.

With the correct upgrades you should be good for 5+ years!!!
1. CPU
2. Memory
3. SSD
4. System performance settings.
What CPU do you have installed???
12GB memory is plenty but 16GB with a matching pair of 8GB would be max and best.
If you go to your BIOS your memory should be "Dual Interleave"
Do you have an SSD or an HDD???

should be service tag on bottom?
looking for general speed optimisation.
dell cares asking for it. see what they say. looking at general stuff it hangs opening pictures on facebook?
Have deleted some. not really pushing it to the max. shouldn't have problems.
support total waste of time and said out of warranty. already said its refurbished so obviously out of warranty.

To ensure the security of your information, I'd suggest that you delete the post containing any Dell centric information (Service Tag / Express Service Code).

delete some startup and residual programs? done that.
not sure why pics make it hang?

cleaned up and more some residuals.
Was on about virtual ram tweaks and stuff. or been busy on firestick a few days will google stuff.
I know you can change graphics to performance mode etc.
seems ok now gone.

Computers need to be maintained...you probably have a lot of programs and at startup.
If you don't want to deal with the details, make sure you backup all of your personal files and then start over by restoring windows. (go to reset this pc or recovery).
If that is too much, just to to "start up apps" in Windows settings and turn some stuff off.

done a cleanup and a google. its better but not super fast its only 8gb ram. can i buy a one 8gb stick and install with a 4gb? should i just buy a new laptop?
where would i buy ram? how much?
