Dell Latitude 3560 windows 10 CD key not working -Error code: 0xc004c003

Hi

Got a Dell Latitude 3560, bought it with a windows 7 downgrade.

Now that Windows 7 is soon to be no longer supported I used the dell windows 10 media to install a fresh installation of windows 10.

The issue I am experiencing now is that the windows 10 is not registered, my understanding is that it will take the cdkey saved in the BIOS and apply it but this does not seem to be the case.

I double checked the system configuration for the device from the Dell website and it should be valid for windows 10 as per below.

620-AAYW :   Windows 10 Pro OS Recovery 64b it - DVD
7PF46
KIT, SOFTWARE, DIGITAL VIDEO DISK DRIVE, W10P, 64, REST OF WORLD

619-AHVJ :   Windows 7 Professional (64Bit) English (Includes Windows 10 Pro License)
253VN
INFORMATION, DIRECT X (@V), 110000

What could I be doing wrong?

The laptops motherboard was changed less than a year for an issue with one of the ports, the certified technician gave me a soft plastic cd case with a new windows CD key in it.

I have tried using the CD key provided by the certified technician as well, but I get the same error advising that windows could not be activated.

If I look at the error details I get Error code: 0xc004c003 The activation server determined the specified product key has been blocked.

Please help, this laptop is freshly out of warranty!

Kind regards

Donnevan

I assume when the MB was changed the tech reinstalled Windows 7.  But are you trying to clean install Windows 10 or an upgrade installation? If you are running Windows 7 you should do the upgrade installation first. Then you can clean install after that as many times as you wish. This link should help.

Thanks JOcean

Went through the solutions mentioned in the link you provided.

Got in touch with Microsoft support, they advised that the key is no longer valid and that I should contact Dell to provide a new one.

My issue is now that as my device is out of warranty, I cannot create a traditional support call, they refer me to FAQ and certified technicians.

Welcome to the Dell Community  @Donnevan

Sounds like the COA the tech gave you had been used already???

When you activate W10 it takes an electronic signature of your system.

Since your system board was replaced you must activate W10 for that new board.

You should still be able to activate W10 with any W7 25 digit COA.

Just remember that  W7 COA can never be used again.

After Jan. 14 2020 I'm not sure if W7 COA's will still activate W10???

Hi U2

Thanks for welcoming me.

Kindly see replies below to your questions\statements.

"Sounds like the COA the tech gave you had been used already???"

Not sure, would the Microsoft support technician not have picked up that the key had been registered for a different device?

"When you activate W10 it takes an electronic signature of your system.

Since your system board was replaced you must activate W10 for that new board."

How would one do this?

"You should still be able to activate W10 with any W7 25 digit COA."

I did a clean install as per dell guide to upgrade to windows 10 from a rolled back window 7 laptop.

As a result there is no trace of the previous Win 7 key.

"Just remember that  W7 COA can never be used again.

After Jan. 14 2020 I'm not sure if W7 COA's will still activate W10???"
