Been having garbled screen issue when installing Windows 10 on this device.

This is what I see on my E7240.

In the order of the pictures/timing:

  1. Lost of random horizontal lines
  2. The Windows logo appears towards the top (lines still present)
  3. Windows logo + spinning circle appears
  4. Windows installer loads without any artifacts (but fairly low resolution, expected)

The photos you show from your 7280 look very similar to the first one I get on my E7240, but seemingly you don't get any further than that.

I would suggest:

  1. Updating the BIOS to the latest, if you haven't already (I thought there was usually a way to do without having an OS on it)
  2. Did you build the bootable USB drive using something like Rufus? If not, try that (that's how mine was built)
  3. Do you have a USB DVD-ROM available to try burning the installer to a DVD and trying that?
  4. BIOS boot mode set to UEFI? Secure Boot enabled? Try disabling Secure Boot and try Legacy mode?

The picture doesn't seem to be loading for me, but if the display looks like part of the Windows logo on the top half of the screen and then a whole bunch of random horizontal lines on the bottom-half of the screen, I had that same issue while installing Windows 10 on my E7240 (I have both an E7240 & E7250).

However, the issue was only momentary. When I allowed the screen to sit there several minutes, I was greeted with the Windows 10 installer screen eventually and there were no artifacts or display issues going forward. Did you allow some time with it on the garbled screen to see if the issue went away and you could continue the install process?

I'm actually still trying to fix it but still the same but different color.

The lines now are blue.

Yes, actually I let it sit for quite a while then it turned blue with a lot of horizontal lines as well, then it turned off itself.

This is kind of mind boggling for me, first time encountering something like this.

Hello ProblemSolver1,

It seems that all of my 8gb flash drives are the issue. When I used my other my 64gb flash drive, it worked flawlessly. So, I didn't need to update the BIOS.

Thanks for answering my question, mate!
