Dell Latitude D620 Battery problem
I've recently got my hands on this laptop and used it frequently. I bought it second hand and the previous owner didnt have the original AC adapter and its battery was dead. I bought a Dell AC adapter and a battery and it was working flawlessly but I had to reinstall Windows XP on this machine and all the drivers,(and updated to Service Pack 3). Also before the OS reinstallation the battery was depleted and forgot to charge it. I installed the battery driver but it showed as Idle. I tried the method of uninstalling the Battery driver from the Driver List in the System control panel but wiithout any effect. I reckoned that Flashing the BIOS might help and downloaded the A10 Bios from the driver list in the Dell website but since the battery was depleted the setup cant start and shows an error that I need to charge the Battery to 10% minimum. Any ideas? Thank you for your patience and help!

I am not understanding why leaving the AC adapter connected and allowing the battery to charge is such a problem?

If you leave it on overnight to let it charge, and the D620 does not remain powered on when you remove the AC adapter then either you have a problem with the battery, the DC power jack, the AC adapter, or the motherboard.
I have a D620 running XP SP3. I don't recall having to do anything special to get the battery status icon in the notification area.
