E7440 - Bluetooth?
Hi,
I thought the E7440 had Bluetooth built in but I don't see it in the Control Panel or in the Device Manager. Can anyone confirm if the E7440 has Bluetooth capabilities? I want to make sure that isn't a driver issue. If I need to provide my service tag via private message, please let me know.

We got it figured it. The wireless switch simply needed to be in the ON position. I guess that controls it all. Thanks for all your help!

If it's there, it would be part of the WiFi card. Intel WiFi cards have included Bluetooth for a while now, and I believe Dell Wireless cards have as well. The days of dedicated Bluetooth modules are long gone, and the only systems I'm aware of that have Bluetooth integrated onto the motherboard are systems that also have WiFi integrated onto the motherboard, like the XPS 13 9370. That said, I believe the E7440 could be ordered with an option to disable Bluetooth, and if that exists, then even a combo WiFi+BT card won't make Bluetooth available on the system. This came up in a thread a while back, and it seems there's either a firmware or possibly hardware restriction that gets set if the "Disable Bluetooth" option is ordered from the factory. Hardware would be possible because although both radios are on the same card, WiFi interfaces with the system over PCIe, whereas Bluetooth interfaces with the system over USB. The mPCIe and M.2 slots used for WiFi cards carry both of those protocols (normally, anyway).

Thank you for the information. If I provided my service tag to Dell, would they be able to tell if the system was ordered with Bluetooth disabled?
When I search for Bluetooth it brings up the option to transfer/receive files. Also, I notice there are some Bluetooth services that are set to manual. I set them to automatic but I still don't see that Bluetooth is enabled.

Check support.dell.com - use your service tag to look up the original system configuration. It should list the as-shipped hardware (and may also list any custom order options that were placed with the system).

It's not clear what OS you're running, but if it's Windows 10, try going to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & Other Devices. Do you see a toggle switch for a Bluetooth radio there? Otherwise, try going into your BIOS and seeing if you can find any options for Bluetooth there. Even on systems that ship with it enabled (the default), it can be disabled at a BIOS level. The option to disable at the factory permanently disables it. In terms of seeing your system configuration, you can just go to support.dell.com, enter your Service Tag there, and navigate to the "System configruation" section. It will show you all of the options your system was ordered with, although some of the descriptions are admittedly a bit difficult to "decode". Unfortunately the list used by support.dell.com isn't the same as the options list you see on an order confirmation.

The E7440 has Windows 7 Pro installed.
I see that 555-BBHI : Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 72 60 802.11ac/a/b/g/n 2x2 + Blue tooth 4.0 LE Half Mini Card is part of the original configuration. I will check the BIOS and see if it disabled anywhere. Otherwise, I'm not sure where to go to enable it. As far as I know, it's never been enabled and the device manager doesn't show anything Bluetooth related.

If you don't see any reference to Bluetooth at all in the BIOS, it may have been disabled from the factory. If you see Bluetooth and it's enabled at a BIOS level but you still don't see anything in Device Manager for Bluetooth (or any Unknown Devices), then try removing and reseating the card in the slot in case the pins that handle Bluetooth aren't connecting properly or something. If that doesn't work, I suppose the Bluetooth portion of the card may have a hardware issue or something. That seems unlikely, but an Intel Wireless-AC 7260 is only about $30. Since the E7440 uses Half Mini-Card, if you want to buy another one, make sure you get the Wireless-AC 7260HMW, not the 7260NGW, the latter of which is the M.2 card style. Also be aware that there is also a Wireless-N 7260, which you do NOT want. I have no idea why Intel used the same model number for two cards that have completely different capabilities, but they did.

Facepalm. Sorry, should have thought to suggest that. I forgot those systems had a physical switch that actually causes the hardware to disappear, as opposed to a more common software switch that simply disables the radios but keeps the hardware detected. Glad you're sorted out!
