EGPU Error code 12
HI all,
I purchased an external enclosure with graphics card. Followed instalation instructions. I am getting error code 12
“This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system"
Jf I load into Safe Mode I get no errors.
Did some research which points to a resource conflict.
Went into Device manager to attempt to find the cause.
PCI Slot 1, Bus 6
No problems with either I/O or memory allocations.
IRQ shows the following: Downstream Port Error
Driver OEM5.INF
Dug further and it has been suggested that if I go into BIOS and Reset Configuration Data may work ( BIOS 1.40.1). Which one to use BIOS Defaults or Factory settings?
Any advice will be gratefully received
Thank you in advance
Gil

UPDATE: FIXED, kind of.
HI,
Thanks to enj63, got me thinking. It used to be softwae was dictated by hardware. Now, it's flipped and Hardware is dictated by software.
So, I went back to WIN 10.
Egpu and card recognised and installed without errors.
Just goes to show that newest is not always better.

On an eGPU, Error Code 12 typically denotes a resource conflict, frequently brought on by a lack of PCIe address space. Given that it operates in Safe Mode, the problem most likely stems from Windows' resource allocation to devices. You can attempt to resolve this by forcing the system to reallocate resources by resetting the BIOS configuration data. In contrast to a full factory reset, which restores all BIOS settings, select the option to reset configuration data. To free up resources, you might need to update BIOS/chipset drivers or disable unused devices in Device Manager if that doesn't work.

You can reset the configuration data by disconnecting or removing the main battery and AC power. Hold the power button for 30 sec.
Then reconnect. The system will be reset to defaults.

Many models do not have the option. A battery disconnect/power button press will clear everything.
I doubt that will solve the problem though.

Hi ejn63
Tried Default Bios and Factory reset, but still no joy. Running out of ideas. FYI I have checked the card in imy home system. I have also tried 3 different versions of Windows 11.
Can I change manually allocate the pci bus?

No, that cannot be changed. If the card is OK, you can try another PCIe adapter to see if you can find one that works (there's no guarantee any of them will, as they're unsupported devices).

No, it's not - it's trying to run a GPU in a slot never intended for one. It's a hardware issue - not an operating system issue.
