Fingerprint driver for GNU/Linux

Dear developers,

Could you please pay attention to the problem of a missing driver for the 0a5c:5843 device on GNU/Linux? Here is a tread where developers and users of libfprint request your support:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/libfprint/libfprint/-/issues/221

Thanks in advance,

Anton K.

Reboot does not fix this for me. I need to do specifically shutdown and a cold boot for the fingerprint sensor to appear in the list of the connected USB devices.

Thanks a lot. It's awesome. It also works on my dell precision 7550.

These are devices that are not supported. For most of them support is unlikely to ever happen, and if then only through reverse engineering efforts as vendors are only officially supporting a small subset of devices.

I no longer have this issue if I keep fprintd running by addind "--no-timeout", instead of the default on-demand start/stop.
With systemd, I did this by creating /etc/systemd/system/fprintd.service.d/override.conf :

[Service]
ExecStart=
ExecStart=/usr/libexec/fprintd --no-timeout

Hi there! This is a long shot, but I can't get my BCM5880 working on arch with your driver. Running the python script yields no output, and it doesn't seem to have done anything. fprintd-enroll still says no devices found. I'm at a loss for what to do as I'd really like to get the fingerprint sensor working. You seem like a wizard with this stuff so I figured I would reach out. Any ideas?

Hi, there's something wrong of Broadcom fingerprint reader with the installation of ubuntu 22.04 lts.  It seems like this method does not work at this moment.

Couldn't make it work on Dell Latitude 5500, device:

We just finished a lengthy conversation with Dell support on the topic.
First, they suggested to me that I delete my disk and reinstall the OS.
Then they said their own Ubuntu distro supports the fingerprint, and then that it does not.
Then they said that because my particular laptop was sold with Windows, they will not support the fingerprint on Linux.

As I wrote to them:
When someone asks me if our company should buy Dell laptops as desktops, I will have to say "no". Hopefully, some day, they will start taking the buyers seriously.

Same here : As a Linux Dell user, with a fingerprint laptop, I would like to give my support for this kind of requests.

You cannot sell hardware , with an operating system , without providing a minimum of support for the hardware: this is the least a manufacturer could do.

Many thanks in advance.

Did you make your Broadcom fingerprint work on Ubuntu 22.04?
