How to restore my laptop E6410
Hello, I would like to know how to restore this laptop that was given to me by a friend.
I have tried various options when the laptop boots up such as repair and cannot make any progress.
I suspect this lappy needs a fresh start so was hoping I could download and install from my USB stick. I have the windows 7 pro key.
Kind regards, Mikey.

That is an old model that probably has hardware problems. Installing windows on a failing or failed hard drive or failed hardware will not solve any problem. Laptops do not usually last for that long. The E6410 is 9 yrs old now. There is a bios coin cell battery you can replace. That would be a cheap fix or a good place to start. Run the hard drive test if possible. See the manual on how to replace parts but don't spend too much money or time on it--

Support for Windows 7 ends in January 2020. That's not very far away.

If the restore partition is gone, there is no way you are going to be able to restore to Windows 7 Pro.
Before you do anything, download Dell Diagnostics program and install it onto a USB flash drive. Run the diagnostics program to make sure that the hardware is working properly.
If the hard drive has gone bad, I would replace it with a SSD.
As for Windows 7 Pro, you can use the service tag number and see if a Dell Windows 7 image is available for you to download.
After you install Windows 7 Pro, immediately install Windows 10 over it and use your Windows 7 Pro key to activate Windows 10 Pro.
