I have a problem booting to usb

I'm trying to boot to a usb thunb drive. The option shows after pressing f12 during boot. I've tried efi and legacy..

I had this problem a long time ago and it was solved; but my memory isn't as good as it used to be. I do remember that it required some odd setting.

I have tested with several usb drivewhich were burnt as backups and tested, none work.I've used 3 different new usb drives with no luch.

What is the exact model number of your system? Do the flash drives contain an OS such as Windows or Linux? How did you create the bootable drives?

Dell Lattude E5450, It has a 2TB SSD and runs Win10pro (Original) and Linux Mint 20.3.

The USB thumb drives all have various operating systems on them produced by the incorperated burning software from Mint linux.

This laptop was working with the other thumb drives; but they are just for backup and I hadn't used them for months. probably close to two years. Mint 21 has released and I'm wanting to install itso I need the ability to boot from USB and I don't remember what I have to do to make it boot. I do remember that it was a setting that I didn't think had any affect and thought that I shouldn't mess with.

Side issue to prevent this in the future, is there any way to "copy" the BIOS settings?
