Latitude 3490 No Audio Device Installed

I've seen several people on here with the same problem but all other posts are for a different model number.

The best solution looks to be uninstall the driver and reinstall the current driver from Dell.

I've done that but still have the same problem. The built in audio devices including the microphone are not recognized by Windows.

But if we plug it into the dock audio will play from the speakers attached to the dock.

But then we don't have a mic to use.

The end user that has this laptop is not available at this time but I don't believe it's still under warranty because when I was working with it yesterday I noticed the Dell Support site said support expired September last year.

We tried reaching you on a private message asking for the Service Tag number to ascertain the warranty but did not receive a response. Please feel free to reply to the private message whenever you are available.

Hello Dell Community,

Well the Dell Cares moderator just told me they don't care because the laptop is too old. That's fine I was just was hoping someone else might have some advice on what driver to uninstall so I can use the built in audio. I know it's not a hardware problem because the hardware troubleshooter can play sound.

Some Dell laptops, particularly after some windows updates, may need a driver update to active the headphone port  or fix "No Audio Output Device Is Installed" error showing when trying to turn on or increase the volume.

Hi @Anonymous

I have removed and updated every driver that could possibly be needed for the speakers/Headphone audio. I tested a few older drivers just to make sure. It's just the system never detects the Realtek Audio under Sound, video and game controllers.

Does anyone know what driver would be used for the preboot hardware diagnostic tool?

Since the speakers will beep from that test I assume it's not a hardware problem but the sounds produced by that test are really just tones not what most would call audio sounds or music.

Thanks again for any help or advice anyone can provide.

I think my next step is to see if reinstalling the OS does anything.

I can say booting to Hiren's Win10 USB media normally has the startup audio and it didn't when we booted to it.

@OBraga

Perhaps check the BIOS - Press F2 on startup and check System Configuration - Audio, Ensure Enable Microphone and Enable Internal Speaker are ticked
