Latitude 3510 - No input devices found - Error Code 45

Hello everyone,

Issue:
I work in the IT Helpdesk department at the company I work for and recently, we have had some issues with our Latitude 3510s. After May 2021 Windows update, the internal mic is not detected at all. Speakers are working fine, but no microphone is detected. Wired and bluetooth headphones/earbuds with microphones are detected just fine.

Issue could have been caused by the May 2021 Windows update. My best guess is "2021-05 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 20H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5003173)".

Device details:
Windows Version: 20H2 Build: 19042, Windows 10 Enterprise
Processor: i5-10210U, RAM: 8 GB, x64 Bit

What happens:
Under sound settings, no input devices are found.
In the Sound Control Panel --> Recording, there is no device listed, even with disabled devices and disconnected devices shown.
In Device Manager, under "Audio Inputs and Outputs", the microphone array is not listed. I clicked "Show Hidden Devices" and a list of microphones populate, all greyed out. Clicking into properties shows Error Code 45 "Hardware Devices are not connected".

Tried:
Ran "Troubleshoot Recording Audio". No issues detected.
Downloaded Realtek Audio Driver 6.0.9175.1. Microphone still not detected.
Dell Online Diagnostics could not find microphone to run recording test.
Ran DISM under Command Prompt; no change
Ran SFC /SCANNOW with no change.
Ran Hardware Troubleshooter, which detected no issues.
Ran chkdsk /f with no change.
Downloaded and installed more recent BIOS 1.9.0; no change.
Diagnostics through BIOS menu found no issues with microphone.

Temporary workaround =

  1. Bluetooth or wired headphones/earbuds with microphones are detected and work fine.

Please note this is only a temporary workaround. Ideally, I would like to be able to use the internal mic.

Thank you for any and all your help.

A dell technician helped me resolve the issue. It was a driver regression issue.

We tried reaching you on a private message asking for the Service Tag number to ascertain the warranty but did not receive a response. Please feel free to reply to the private message whenever you are available.

I managed to re-enable the microphone through the registry editor. Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\MMDevices\Audio\Capture, I found the driver key for the microphone array I wanted to used and changed the Device State's Value Data from "4" to "1".

The issue now is Error 45 displays in Properties. Not sure how to proceed from here, but I am confident I am closer to resolving this.

Hello,

I have had some issues with our Latitude 3510.

The internal mic is not detected.

Windows is 22h2 (build 19045) and driver is "Realtek-High-Definition-Audio-Driver_T880V_WIN_6.0.9257.1_A14.EXE"

Thanks,
