Latitude 5420 Camera Quality
We have a fleet of Latitude 5420 with the HD+IR integrated camera. The camera appears to be using infra red even in full light which is causing blacks to appear as green and the colour to become washed out. The issue appears much worse when in natural ambient light (near a window for instance). Has anyone else experienced this or able to check if this is common?

Yes, exact same experience here on a 5420 with HD/IR camera. Also still looking for a solution.

Keep checking the Latitude 5420 drivers page for a new Camera Firmware Update Tool.

Hi Chris,
Does this mean there is an acknowledged issue and an update is in the works already?

Hi All,
Any update on this issue? I'm seeing the same issue with a 5420

The firmware update tool is from july and does not change anything about the colour palette. Still off.
In the mean time a second user has reported this issue. I suspect more will follow as we are rolling out 5420's with IR camera's now.

Note, the Latitude 5420 shipped with three webcam with different specifications. So you need to be aware that if your chosen/purchased webcam is from Option 1 or 2, it is using 1280x720. You cannot compare those to other webcams doing 1920x1080.
Option 1 = HD RGB 1280x720 30 FPS
Option 2 = HD RGB + IR 1280x720 30 FPS
Option 3 = FHD RGB + IR Webcam with proximity sensor and ALS (optional) 1920x1080 FHD 30 FPS

Hi,
Can you please advise of any solution regarding the poor camera quality. Also is there a specific driver for the camera. In all of our deployed laptops it seems to be a Microsoft driver from 2006.

I am facing the same issue and contacted support. But Dell Support team says its 2MP camera and quality is as per design instead of acknowledging it as an issue and fixing.

I see this has been an issue since 2021. Five years later, I am having the same issue with this model. It must be safe to assume.......time to upgrade
