Latitude 5490 and d3100 dock issues
Hello, Fingers crossed I will be able to alleviate some frustration with my new set up. I have a latitude 5490, a P2210 monitor and a D3100 dock, and I have encountered two problems; Ethernet connection, when the cable goes straight into the laptop, no issues, when its in the dock, the connection drops out every few minutes. Monitor. I have the DVI cable, with a HDMI adapter on one end (adapter provided in the box with the dock). When I plug the HDMI into the laptop, monitor is detected and works perfectly. If i plug it into the dock, not detected at all. I have also tried display port (at monitor) to HDMI on dock, and display port both ends cable, and in neither scenario can the monitor be detected. I have changed to another d3100 dock, same issues, I have replaced the USB cable from the dock to the laptop, no change. Tried another monitor, same issue. IT department at work have followed instruction from the Dell site, uninstalling the display link then reinstalling drivers in a set order and looked at various other drivers and firmwares, all to no avail. Simple matter of frustration, as I'd like the system to work as intended. I also note that the 5490 laptop is not listed as compatible with the d3100 (but is with WD15 dock), but IT department dismiss this as not a problem as there are so many similar set ups within the business working with no issues. Any thoughts welcome, thank you in advance.

I agree not being on the compatibility list isn't an issue because Dell often doesn't keep those lists updated on accessory pages as they launch new systems. As to the issue, have you tried using the latest drivers available directly from DisplayLink.com rather than Dell? If not, I'd do that. Otherwise, I don't have any immediate suggestions, and this may or may not be of interest to you, but the newer D6000 would allow you to charge your system from the docking cable unlike the D3100. Or since you have a 5490 that supports video output over USB-C, you might want to consider a dock that actually taps into native GPU outputs (like the WD19) rather than using DisplayLink as all Dell Dxxxx dock models do, since DisplayLink introduces some potentially significant drawbacks that I've written about in this thread, specifically the one marked as the answer.
