Latitude 5500 storage upgrade
Hi,
I've got a Latitude 5500 and there's a PCIe M.2 ssd inside. I could order a connector to mount an ssd or a hdd with sata but I could've use the M.2. There's not enough space for both of them. It's about 1 cm and it's really annoying because there's space but not there. Do you have any solution?
I was wondering if I could mount one more m.2 ssd with a jsata - m.2 adapter but actually I didn't find any.
I hope you can suggest me something because I don't want to bring an external drive with me all the time.

you could try to dismantle a SATA ssd and put only the internal SATA PCB into the slot without casing. The SSD have usually a smaller PCBs inside, smaller than the 2.5 case. That way you could fit a m.2 SSD and the 2.5" SATA PCB into the 2.5 HDD bay.
eventually it will be an issue to properly fix the SATA PCB into the bay but with some workman skills I'm sure it can be worked out.

I lose the warranty if I disassemle the SSD.

Just give up.
I'm an IT and in our company we have Dell.
I have a Latitude 5500 that replaced the old E5540 (the last best Dell Latitude laptop in my opinion. Never had the external battery inflated) and I just tried to install the "sata" disk, with a short mSATA to SATA adapter.
When you put the second disk, the M.2 is cut out.
I have the latest BIOS version and when I checked in System Information I saw "none" on M.2.
So you CAN'T have 2 disks because Dell is......I can't say it, buy Dell DECIDED to exclude the M.2 disk when you connect a SATA disk.
I even tried with a normal mechanical HDD (without putting back the laptop back cover) and the result is the same, so it's not my mSATA adapter, it's Dell that deliberately decided that.
Even if you could create a "raid" with Intel Rapid Storage Technology (F12 at boot - Device Configuration option).
Thank you Dell, really. You have a closed mind as Apple have.

@DELL-Cares
Can you please tell me if it's possible to install another storage device besides the M.2 that is already installed in my Dell Latitude 5500?

@dayumndaniel Dell Latitude 5500 doesn't support both storage ports at the same time.
I installed an M.2 and then I got a SATA to USD cable and I'm using a SATA SSD as external storage. Much less elegant than having both inside but it works.
