Latitude 5501 (SSD+NVMe bundle) question.

In this article nothing written concretly about Dell 5501 configuration. Common phrases only.

I've written here because I thought that you are being Dell must have useful information on concrete model.

Also I would ask about 5501 opportunities in terms of drives upgrade.

E.g. put one more drive (in case when both default drives are untouchable or so.)

Hello Sersm, I believe this should answer your question. These are 2 different hardware technologies that are tied to each other. You can use an SSD that is not NVMe(SATA SSD's).

As far as I understood these both are SATA.

• 2.5-inch 5400rpm hard-disk drive
• 2.5 inch 7200rpm Hard-drive drive

these both can replace that drive which acting as a buffer for SSD.

• M.2 2230 solid-state drive
• M.2 2280 solid-state drive

Am I correct?

is there a separate connector and place for M.2?

Generally speaking is there a layout of all drives connectors?

Is it possible SSD 2.5 SATA (Win7)  & M.2 (Win10) such a variant? I mean loading from different drives?

It does not matter what configuration your machines uses. These are storage and interface technologies that remain unchanged. Your machine does not have an option for multiple drives. Your computer supports one of the following drives:

• 2.5-inch 5400rpm hard-disk drive
• 2.5 inch 7200rpm Hard-drive drive
• M.2 2230 solid-state drive
• M.2 2280 solid-state drive

I've been meaning to say, we don't support that configuration. The machine ships with only one drive and that is what we support.

There are separate connectors for M.2 and SATA, however, the machine ships with only one drive based on your order. ^SP

that's clear it comes with content in accordance with order.

My question is different.

will it be workable such a configuration:

• HDD 2.5 SATA ---> to separate SATA connector. Here OS1.
• M.2 ---> to separate M.2 connector. Here OS2.

Also, that NVMe, does it contain any information after power off. Or it acts as a buffer only?

Oh my gosh, machine may come without any drives at all (if it's ordered so) and at the same time it may support various types of drives. Moreover, it may support two drives simultaneously for different OS loading.

Will I ever heard something concrete from Dell?

If there was no drive ordered, you would not receive any OS or drive related support or any other issues arising from the use of 3rd party drives. The types of drive supported are in my previous messages. Dual-boot, we don't support it. We're here if you have any further questions.
