Latitude 7480 Battery not found.
Hello everyone, i am having lately what seems to be power issue with my Latitude 7480.
At first it started with my LED indicator under the track-pad on the right blinking in a pattern 4 Amber, 1 White light. So i searched and found that the pattern indicates that the laptop battery is failing and it might need replacement, so i ran some tests and troubleshoots. First i checked the laptop battery status using DOS and it showed that the battery is in good condition.
Then i run diagnostics while booting up the laptop with F12 key. The diagnostic tested failed indicating battery error with message code "Error Code: 2000 0131, Validation Code: 126377, Battery is not installed"
Thus i followed the recommended action and updated my BIOS using SupportAssist and the issue was not resolved. Next step i turn off the laptop and unplugged the battery from the motherboard and reinstall it. However this steps did not resolve the issue and once i finished the steps the LED indicator changed to constantly blinking Amber and now the battery is not recognized neither from the Windows nor BIOS. When enter in BIOS to check the battery status it shows that the battery is not detected and while in Windows the battery icon on the notification tray is crossed and says "No battery detected".
Moreover, i run Power troubleshoot while in Windows and did not detect any issues, then using Device Management tried to uninstall "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" found in the battery section.
The power adapter is working fine the light on the end of the cable is lighting and the laptop gets power trough it.
However the laptop works fine with the AC adapter fine as well as if i remove if the laptop still function on battery, but it is not recognized by the laptop.
Any advice on what i have might miss, or i have done wrong would be appropriated.

I'm not sure if you ever resolved your issue, but I had a similar issue (battery not detected, laptop only ran with the AC adapter plugged in) on my Latitude 7480 (which is now quite old, a year out of warranty), and was eventually able to get it working by doing the following (I tried a bunch of items so I am not 100% sure of what the final trick was):
1. Uninstalling the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" and then having Windows 10 Pro 64-bit automatically re-installing it by right clicking and select "Scan for new hardware changes"
2. Replacing the Dell battery*and* the power cable that connects the battery to the motherboard.
3. Reseating the battery cable multiple times, both on the attachment to the battery side and attachment to the motherboard side. I think a combination of #2 and #3 was what really solved it.
After doing step #3, the battery finally showed a status of 56% (power plugged in), and verified that if I unplugged the AC adapter the laptop ran on battery power, but it was not charging.
It was at this point I did a BIOS update using the latest BIOS (April 2021 as of this message). My laptop's BIOS was quite old. I was only able to update the BIOS once the laptop detected a battery present - previous attempts failed because the BIOS wouldn't update without a battery present.
Once the BIOS was updated, upon reboot the laptop was suddenly able to charge the battery again.

I had the same issue and just fixed it using your method. I got a new battery and cable, and when I installed it, it was not working, not being recognized. I unplugged it and reconnected the cables on both ends 2 times and on the third hookup it recognized the battery. As of 9/5/2025, I just installed Windows 11 Pro on my Dell 7480 and it is going strong. At first it would tell me that I couldn't update to Windows 11 because the hardware was not compatible, but it worked great after a manual install. Thank you for the tip that worked for me.
