Latitude 7490 sleep problems after SSD upgrade
Hi everyone,
After multiple attemps and research I cannot fix the following problem on my Latitude 7490: I'd like to upgrade the 256 Gb Toshiba SSD with a 1TB Kingston Nvme SSD. So I cloned/ reinstalled windows 10 on the new SSD via many differents methods, and either it doesn't boot, or Windows boots normally on the new SSD (inserted inside), and everything seems to be working fine BUT I am unable to wake up from sleep mode : only the power button is lighted and a black screen remains. I tried to fix this with the methods advised by Dell support (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJIEcX0ExfE), but it didn't work. I am using the sleep mode quite a lot so I wouldn't like to loose this functionnality.
Here is the details of my attemps :
- Partition clone with Easus Backupper : boots but not able to wake from sleep
- System clone with Easus Backupper : doesn't boot
- Clone with Clonezilla : doesn't boot
- System recovery from image with AOMEI Backupper : boots but not able to wake from sleep
- System recovery from image with Acronis True image : boots but not able to wake from sleep
My first hypothesis is that I may do something wrong with the reinstallation / cloning of windows, but I don't know what. Between my attemps I was only deleting the partitions with Easus Partition master, so I though maybe this is not clean enough for a proper reinstallation, so for the last try, I cleaned more in depth with another option of Easus partition master (data erase, which they say is almost equivalent to secure clean), in vain. Should I go for a secure clean and reinstall or wouldn't it change much?
Second hypothesis : I read that you can change the disk driver in the BIOS from RAID to AHCI to enhance the performances of the SSD. But would this have something to do with my sleep problem?
But maybe there is a totally different problem which I cannot see as I am definitely not an expert.

Hi all,
I finally solved the problem by simply switching from RAID to AHCI (followed some tuto on youtube) : I am now able to wake up from sleep mode without problem so far.

Hi,
I have the same case. I bought 2 HP EX950 1TB and both cause my 7490 to hang. It is not a sleeping problem.
It is the problem with PCI when the system going to save energy. I put the one EX950 to MSI PS42 and it works like a charm.
It happens before the sleep as the laptop sleeps normally on battery and this behavior happens on AC.
The case happens with Windows or Linux, it does not matter do you clone SSD or just install the new one OS.
And a workaround in Win10 is:
Click "Start" and choose "Settings" (or press [WIN]+I), then "System" > "Power & Sleep", at the right side choose "Additional power settings" > "Change plan settings" > "Change advance power settings" > scroll to the bottom "PCI Express" > "Link State Power Management" and "Off" the both ones.

Thanks for helping!
I set the PCI express parameter to off as you suggested (and saved) but unfortunately it didn't work : when I wake up from sleep mode, I am now hanging on a blue screen (I wan see the time and the mouse), and the only thing I can do is pushing the power button to shut down...
Surprinsingly enough, when I reboot, the PCI express parameter is back to its original value, does it mean that I didn't manage to save the change properly?
Do you have any idea how I could solve this problem?

Hi @gabstet, sorry that solution didn't work for you. For now I don't have other ideas.
Do you pm to @DELL-Cares? May be they suggest something really helpful...

Yes, BIOS>SATA operations>AHCI, that has already checked on my 7490 and it did not work.
I glad you solved your case.
