Latitude E5440 doesn't read battery correctly on windows 10
So I updated my latitude E5440 from windows 7 to windows 10 and the computer hibernates after about 10 min while on battery. I then did a fresh install of windows 10 but it didn't resolve the problem.
The issue is that windows 10 thinks the battery drains after 10 minutes and then goes into hibernation. I can then turn the laptop on, and continue to use it for 2+ hours while the battery is at 1%.
While this is kind of a work around, It's still annoying because I have to wait for it to die, then use it with no indication of when the battery is getting low.
I tried to "recalibrate it" by charging it to full, taking the battery out, deleting both the batteries in the device manager, powering it down, removing ac, then plugging in the battery and then the AC, letting it charge fully, and then letting it drain again, but this doesn't work.
I'm kinda lost as to what I should do now as its clearly a software issue because the battery lasts (after the initial hibernation) for 2+ hours while at 1%
It is an original Dell battery.
The battery was working correctly with windows 7, which is why I assume its a software problem, because it doesn't work with windows 10.
I installed all the drivers already.

Fresh install, all updates, re-calibrated not much left to try???
Did you go into the BIOS and "Load Defaults"
You could go as far as to remove the "Main" battery, service cover and disconnect the BIOS/RTC battery???
Make sure to note the "SATA Configuration" before doing so!!!

One other thing???
Did you make sure that your "Power Plan" settings did not change???
Can you create a customized power plan???

If the battery is the original one, it is 5 years old and should be replaced. All batteries wear out. 5 years is exceptional battery life. 2 years is a good life for today's batteries so you are lucky.
BTW you should not treat today's batteries as you did to models from years ago. Draining today's batteries is not good practice. Research the new methods of battery care.
Make sure to get all the needed new drivers for windows 10 starting with the chipset drivers here--

its not the battery thats at fault, as I said in my post, after it dies the first time, I can turn it on and have it last for 2 hours while its at 1%. This only started happening after I upgraded windows.

How do I contact Dell to find an actual solution? The forum hasn't been any help (sorry guys)

I loaded the defaults in the BIOS, but it didn't change anything.

I also tried different power configs to make it work, but that didn't help either.

Still could have a bad battery where something in the battery isn't communicating properly with motherboard. Did you go into Device Manager and uninstall all of the Microsoft battery ACPI drivers? Then reboot your notebook and they will install again. This might fix you problem and it might not, I did run into a similar issue and this fix it.
