Latitude E5470 with 2tb drive

Question

I recently purchased a Latitude E5470 with a 512GB M.2 drive. I want to replace it with a 2TB M.2 drive, but I found a page in the owner's manual that indicates the upper limit is 512GB (https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/latitude-e5470-laptop/latitudee5470_om/storage-specifications?guid=guid-e579063e-03a4-4e56-94af-5d9f53a51fd2&lang=en-us)

Does anyone know if this is true? Is the 5470 really limited to 512GB SSDs?

That limit is based on the largest drive that Dell techs have tested with the E5470. It is not the largest compatible drive though as the Crucial site here shows. The largest based on their site is 2TB. And yes both the single and dual SODIMM versions of the E5470 take 2TB as the largest.

As per the standard configuration the below systems supports the following storage combination.

Latitude E5270/E5470/E5570:

HDD: up to 1TB, Hybrid, OPAL SED options
SSD 2.5", 7mm: up to 512GB, SED options
SSD M.2 SATA: up to 512GB, OPAL SED options
SSD M.2 PCIe: up to 512GB options

In the case of non supported combination the system might show performance issues.

Dell manuals only reflect what was sold with the laptop.

They in no terms reflect the hardware limitations.

Non-published combinations should not cause any deterioration in performance issues.

In fact, they should increase performance and productivity.
