Latitude E5530 won't turn on.

Question

Hello,

when I try to turn on my laptop, nothing will appear, no POST, just a black screen. Only indicators that light up are the power LEDs and the CAPS Lock button. Then the CAPS Lock LED turns off and after a few seconds power indicator LEDs turn off as well and HDD led starts blinking, battery and wifi led is solid. That's all. Here's video.

I tried removing the battery and pushing the power button to remove any remnant electricity on the system and then put it back on to see if it starts but no luck with this either. Appreciate any help and thank you in advance.

PS: I was using my laptop this morning and everything was ok.

If it's showing a CPU failure, I'd try a remove and replace on the CPU first -- make sure you replace the thermal pad or compound when you break that seal, though.

If that doesn't solve it, there are two possibilities - the CPU is bad (very rare) or the mainboard is what's bad (much more common); if you're troubleshooting, I'd replace the mainboard first.

Exact same make and model, but slightly different issue. Mine, 'nothing will appear, no POST, just a black screen' just like yours, but not even the caps lock key or other led will light up. Any solutions?

I sold mine for parts, motherboard was bad and repair was not worth it for me, but good luck fixing yours.

Try to reset the CMOS/BIOS.

Disconnect AC adapter and remove Main battery.

Since you would need to remove everything to get to the BIOS battery sometimes they will have two copper/gold/silver contacts to reset the BIOS.

Remove any memory installed.

Peel back the plastic that is directly under the memory.

Look for contacts that look like this.

If it does have the contacts use a small flat head screwdriver to short them.

We just shipped a container to China and I do not have an E5530 to see if it has any contacts.

Thanks for the reply! I do not feel comfortable taking it apart without my dad, which means I will try this tomorrow.
