Latitude E6420, Windows 10, specific issue

My laptop screen shows my desktop, taskbar and icons just fine.  When I plug in an HDMI external Samsung monitor, it displays the desktop and the taskbar, but no icons.  If I change the resolution on the Samsung, I can get to where I can about half of the icons, but not all the ones on the far left of the desktop.

What model monitor?  This is a very old system at this point -- if it's a high resolution widescreen monitor, you likely will have problems with a notebook that's this old.

@ejn63 C34H890WGN; it's about 5 years old.  I had this working orginally, but my HDD died.  I had to restore it from a backup from an HP.  I've checked the Nvida driver and it's the latest.

Remove all the video drivers from the system and reboot.  If that doesn't fix the problem, install the correct video drivers from Dell -- chances are the video subsystem is corrupt.

And if that doesn't solve the issue, reinstall Windows followed by the correct drivers.
