1.Find the wireless switch, located on the right side of the laptop and positioned next to the audio connectors, universal serial bus port or infrared sensor.
2.Slide the switch into "On" position to enable wireless communication on the Dell Latitude.
3.Check the Wi-Fi status light on the front of the laptop, LCD hinge or control console. If Wi-Fi is active, the light will turn on.
4.Click "Start | All Program | Dell | Dell Wireless | Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility" if the light remains off.
5.Click "Enable Radio" and then click "OK."

Hello, john harper.

Thanks for the reply.

The wifi network is working fine with the wlan cad, but the problem here is the wwlan card and the sim card.

The sim card has been detected alright with the service operator name. But there is no network signal. I have tried different sim cards but the same result.

Is this a new problem?

Has the card ever worked?

Did you install the card recently?

Did your laptop come originally from Dell with a WWAN card installed?

Hi filbert,

The card has never get a signal.

The card was recently installed.

It did not come originally from Dell with wwan card installed.

The problem is that the laptop does not have the required WWAN antenna.

If the laptop already had the antenna installed, then it would be possible to get the WWAN functional. As the antenna is not present, then the job would not be trivial.

To install the WWAN antenna would require disassembling the display which, given that some parts are glued together and some are fragile, comes with a high risk of damage.

You can get external WWAN adapters that connect to a USB port.

Hi filbert, Can there be a laptop with sim card slot without an antenna? Why will they do that. Any idea please?

It's there because that same model could be ordered with a WWAN card or without a WWAN card (as yours was). It was an option. When ordered without WWAN card, there is also no antenna.

Your laptop came with no WWAN card and no antenna. You installed the WWAN card, but without an antenna you will not have service.

I've disassembled and reassembled many laptops, but I would not take apart a display assembly to install an antenna. The risk of damage is too high, as you'd need to separate some pieces that are glued together and the screen is fragile.

As I wrote above, your best option is to use an external WWAN adapter that connects to a USB port.
