Latitude E6520 powers off unexpectedly/randomly with Windows 10

Question

I've been having a new problem with Windows 10 and Dell Latitude E6520. I have about 6 of these laptops and they're all doing the same thing: They turn themselves off randomly.

Checking the BIOS power event logging shows NOTHING unusual, no record of the power off.

Checking the event viewer in Windows, I've discovered a 'Critical Battery Trigger' but the laptop is plugged into AC power, this is followed by a "System entering sleep" and then followed by "System returning from low power state." and that's the last event before the laptop turned it self off.

I have the power settings in Windows 10 to never go to sleep and never turn off the display when on AC power.

It feels like a recent Windows 10 update is the source of the problem. They used to be fine.

Does anyone have a solution for this issue? I'm stumped.

Yes removing the battery was meant just for testing purposes and not as a solution.

And it was only suggested because of 'Critical Battery Trigger'

The SMART charging system could have been corrupted with an update???

As you say it has happened on multiple systems and you think it is from an update then you may need to fall back to an earlier date.

But before that you would need to find the update that caused it so you do not run that update again.

I know what you're saying. But that's not going to be a solution either. Microsoft will just put the update back as soon as it touches the internet.

I'm pretty certain it is a recent update that has caused this issue, but I don't know which one it is, nor am I confident if I could find it, that taking it out would do any good. It'll just get reinstalled.

Yes I've installed all Windows 10 updates as of 10-10-2020.

I have not tried running them with no battery at all, I will try that just for testing purposes. but that's not really a solution to the issue.. Having to take the battery out to use the laptop isn't realistic.

I'm certain it's not a defective laptop since I have 6 of them all doing exactly the same thing.

have exactly the same issue with intermittent power down. I notice that the icon showing power flashes orange just before the shut down. Another note is that I am able to boot right back up with no loss of anything.

its a problem I really need fixed

I have solved my issue. It is dodgy third-party batteries. The problem goes away when no battery is installed, or a known good genuine Dell battery is installed. I've had good luck with third-party batteries in the past, but guess I got a batch of bad ones.
