Latitude E6530 won't post but only when plugged in.

Question

Hi, I work in IT and recently we have had a few computer come in that wont turn on when plugged in. They are all E6530's and when they are not plugged into their AC adapters they will turn on just fine. If I plug a Charger into it after it is up and running it seems to work with no issues. When the Charger is plugged into the computer and you press the power button the hard drive light flashes for a second and the battery light stays on to signify that it is charging, the power button will also stay lit, after this nothing will happen, when you hit the power button a second time you hear the fans spin up and the hard drive light starts to flash again and it goes for around 5 seconds then it fully shuts off.

I have tried multiple chargers of various Wattages, and all of them do the same thing. I then went to Diagnostics and ran a full Test With the charger plugged and with no Issues being found. I have done all suggestions I have found through multiple different forms although I haven't seen one with this exact issue.

Hi JHrifko,

Have you updated the BIOS to latest? if not you can update it from the given link https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=w3jyv. Check the status of battery and ac adapter in BIOS under battery information. If the ac adapter status says unknown the issue is with the system motherboard and that has to be replaced. If the adapter and battery both are detected, try updating BIOS to see if the issue is addressed.

The BIOS is currently up to date, the status of the battery is fine, and the AC adapter has no issues when plugged in(so long as the computer is turned on before plugging in the adapter.

Dear JHrifko,

Try removing the CMOS battery, ac adapter from the laptop and disconnect the battery and discharge

your laptop by pressing the power button for 10 seconds, then reconnect the CMOS battery and the battery

and turn on your laptop if problem persists try replacing the CMOS battery with new 1.
