Lid Switch on Latitude 5520 don't work

There is a switch in the palmrest assy. that is triggered by a magnet in the LED cover assy. It is possible that the switch itself is not functioning anymore. IOW stuck in the closed position or shorted internally.

The lid reed switch is usually located near the power button.

Make sure no electronic device [AC adapter] is located near the switch.

Apple watch's are also known to trip lid reed switch's.

You can check the functionality of the switch.

With the lid open and the system booted:

Move a small magnet around the power button.

If the switch is functioning correctly it should perform the option you have selected for "When I close the lid"

Next you can check to make sure the magnet is located in the LCD bezel.

Use a small metal washer to go around the LCD bezel.

There you should/may find magnets to hold down the lid and the magnet that when the lid closes it trips the reed switch.

If that magnet is missing then the reed switch will not function.

In short the power button board is not part of the system board and if the reed switch is located on that same board then it could be the problem.

And if there is no magnet located in a corresponding location to the reed switch, then it would not trip the reed switch when the lid is closed.

Thanks for your tips. I found a magnet in the upper right corner of the LCD Panel and the switch in the lower right corner of the palmrest (near the Intel Core Logo). Near the power button is nothing.

When System is booted it reacts to my little magnet and go to Sleep Mode. Thats fine and I think nothing is damaged.

But when the System is off and I try to open the Lid or use my little Magnet nothing happens. System remains off. So my question to all 5520 owners if the Lid Switch Function works for them?

And nothing is around the device, no Apple Watch, AC Adapter etc.

To determine whether your computer supports this feature and how to Enable or Disable this feature, perform the following steps:

1. Restart the computer, when the Dell logo appears, press F2 to go into the Setup menu.

   ---

2. Depending on your BIOS version, either:
   • Touch or click Power.
   • Touch or click the plus sign to the left of Power Management.

   ---

3. Depending on your BIOS version, either:
   • Touch or click Power on Lid Open to toggle between enabling or disabling this feature.
     Note: You may need to scroll down to see the option.
   • Touch or click Lid Switch to highlight the option, and then touch or click to check (enable) or uncheck (disable) the option box to the left of Power On Lid Open.

   ---

4. Touch or click Apply or Apply Changes and then OK (when offered).

   ---

5. Touch or click Exit, the computer will reboot.

Since there is an active "Switch Option" in your BIOS, I wonder if Dell will upgrade the BIOS in the future to include that option for your model???

I have a question. If I can't find any "lid" options in my dell E7470 under power management, does that mean my laptop doesn't support the lid switch feature or do I have to find the lid settings somewhere else? My laptop is of 1.31.3 BIOS version.
