M6800 Optical drive connection

My M6800 laptop optical drive stopped working.  A replacement optical drive also did not work, so I suspect internal cabling to the optical drive bay is the issue.  I am not sure when the optical drive stopped working since it was not used in years.  I suspect this occurred when Dell tech replaced my motherboard 1.5 years ago.  The HDD activity indicator stopping working after the MB replacement, so quite possible a cable is not properly seated.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

BTW, I posted this message to the Latitude board as I did not find a Precision board.

The Precision laptops and desktops questions should go in the Workstations forum.

I suppose you can take apart the laptop. Read the manual and see if that makes sense.

Welcome to the Dell Community  @RStellmac

If I remember correctly the CD/DVD's connector is soldered to the system board "No cable"???

When you say it "Stopped Working" do you mean:

It does not open???

When trying to read/write a CD/DVD it fails???

Best regards,

U2

The CD/DVD drive has no power and is not recognized as being present in device manager.  Scans for new device does not detect it.

@RStellmac

I'll be heading to my warehouse in a few hours.

A am pretty sure I have a few of the M6800's in stock.

I'll check the connector and post back in a few.

I have M6400, M6500, M6600 and M6700's not a single M6800.

But I did check and all have the CD/DVD connector soldered to the system board.

I wish there was more I could do!!!
