MSCONFIG
I have a Dell Latitude E6540 i7-4800MQ, 8GB RAM and with an AMD Radeon HD 8790M series card. I know it's not a gaming PC, but I've seen games work faster and better on much weaker PC's. I seem to have FPS and GHz drops everytime I open a game. Even worse, the games work better when the laptop isn't plugged in.
I've been advised to switch SpeedStep off, but it will bring adverse heat effects. Definite no on my part. On the other hand, I've been told to play around with the MSConfig by increasing the number of processors in advanced options to 8. (My PC is at 1, is that normal?)
The question is: Will increasing my processors to 8 affect my PC hardware in any way? How can I speed up my games and softwares?

"MSConfig by increasing the number of processors in advanced options to 8. " There is no such thing. You cannot "Do" that which does not exist.

Lol. Either I used the wrong language to communicate OR you have probably never heard of the MSCONFIG setting. I did check the box, increase to 8 and reboot but there wasn't much of a difference.
My issue is: My gaming lags when the PC is connected to AC power (Plugged In), but when I play on battery power, they work just fine. There seems to be an FPS drop when charging.

I know what MSCONFIG is however an i7-4800MQ is a SINGLE Processor. There are no systems that have 8 Processors. There are Quad Core I7's with Hyperthreading that appear to have 8 cores but the truth is there are only 4 total cores.
So No there is no increase number of processors to 8. Even $35,000 blade servers have 2 processors not 8. Many games get NO increase in performance whatsoever with more cores because they do not support SMP.
Turbo Boost only applies to a single core.Intel® Core™ i7-4800MQ Processor 6M Cache, up to 3.70 GHz turbo boost. This is NOT and NEVER WILL BE 8 processors.

My bad. I did use the wrong language after all. Sorry about that. I do know I can't increase that. It's impossible.
The issue I'm dealing with is how my games, specifically Rise of the Tomb Raider, lag and stutter when the PC is plugged into AC. And yet on battery, they work like a charm.
