@petermuss

I'm also having this magical issue on my Dell XPS 17 9700 laptop. "No audio device is installed." I didn't do anything different and have tried deleting my Sound, video and game controllers drivers and rebooting

I used to have driver's called:

  • Soundwire Bus
  • Intel Display Audio and but it is no longer there.

Now I only have a driver called: Intel Smart Sound Technology (Intel SST).

The following are screen shots from my system.

@Tawnip

post a screenshot from your device manager. Should look like the attached pic.
Any yellow triangle at your device manager?

@Tawnip

so the drivers for your sound devices are missing.
Grab the DELL Command | Update software from here

Download, install and run the software and let the tool detect all missing drivers.

@petermuss

I tried the Command update and received this lovely error. In another post, someone mentioned seeking out a Priest and I'm about at that point.

And thank you for trying to help me. I do speak DOS so I am able to manually work in the Command Prompt.

THANK YOU!

@Tawnip

Dell Command Update has nothing to do with a DOS Command prompt.

If you can't manage to install the DCU software, grab the complete set of driver for your device from here

https://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER08174992M/1/9700-win10-A09-CJ46J.CAB

Download the CAB and extract it to e.g. c:\dell . If you want, use a command line tool like 7zip to extract the CAB.

Start the device manager on your XPS and start updating the drivers for the devices with the yellow triangle. Use the path to your extracted files when asked.

If you still need a priest - a bunch of them can be found in Rome right now

@petermuss

Sorry just wanted you to know that I'm versed in using the Command prompt or whatever else you or someone can assist me with...

I don't have and yellow triangles next to anything in the Device Manager.

I'm booking a ticket to Rome.

"I don't have and yellow triangles next to anything in the Device Manager."

Look at the pic you posted just one day ago.
Two devices with a yellow triangle.
Drivers for the sound device are missing.
Now you can grab a ticket to Rome - will not help you, because
exorcism will not help agains dementia.

I think you are just trolling. If you really interested in solving the sound prob:

https://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER08174992M/1/9700-win10-A09-CJ46J.CAB

Download the CAB and extract it to e.g. c:\dell . If you want, use a command line tool like 7zip to extract the CAB.

Start the device manager on your XPS and start updating the drivers for the devices with the yellow triangle. Use the path to your extracted files when asked.

Hi @petermuss,

My problem with my Laptop (Inspiron 15 3511) is that my internal speakers are not available. It used to work but now no output device is found. The external headsets works fine. I have ran the windows test and it can't solve the issue. Is there any solution that you can recommend? Below is a screenshot of my device manager for your attention. If you need any other information that can describe my issue, please feel free to ask and I will provide them.

Thanks

@Sam_Inspiron 15 3511 I guess reinstalling the drivers might help you but to find the exact codec equipped with your computer during boot press F2 to open BIOS menu and look for Audio/sound where you could find the audio codec as Cirrus or Realtek. After confirming the codec visit Dell drivers and download the driver accordingly.

Dell reported the bug with Inspiron 3511 after windows 11 24H2 update.

I am facing the same issue with Inspiron 3501 equipped with cirrus cs8409, unfortunately dell didn't acknowledge this issue with my model.

In community I have seen another person with vostro having the same issue.

Dell will release an update for BIOS in May 2025.

Hi @Fadidell,

Thank you for your suggestion. I went through the Inspiron 3511 and other Models with audio issue Windows 11 24H2 and followed the instructions. I noticed I have both of the drivers and so I deleted the Cirrus High definition Audio Driver, which had the most recent date on my Control Panel uninstall a program list. In my case, there was no need to delete the Realtek Audio Driver since it was on my computer and the date was a few year ago. I also did not need to go the other steps to download the driver from the list.

This did the solve my issue.

Thank you so much for all your help and suggestions. You rock.
