No sound
I have no sound on my laptop and I’ve updated all the drivers. I did notice that there’s no “Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) Audio Controller” in device manager. Could that be the problem? I just had to install new harddrive . I ran dell assist and updated everything it said to do but still no sound not even on headset. On the speaker icon there’s a red x and “ no audio output device is installed “ when you put mouse over it.

In Device Manager, do you see any error messages or unknown devices?
Try this anyway, no matter what Device Manager shows: install the Intel Chipset Device Software followed by the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver.

The missing "Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) Audio Controller" in Device Manager could be the reason for the sound not working on your laptop. The Intel(R) SST Audio Controller is responsible for managing the audio functions of your laptop, including playback and recording.
BTW Moderators may guide better.

In Device Manager uninstall everything under the Audio and Sound sections.
Install the Intel Chipset Device Software followed by the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver.
