NVMe Selection.
Latitude 5410
Windows 10 Pro
I want a 512 Gb 2280 NVMe ssd, PCI Gen 4 with backwards compatibility to Gen 3 to use with this Sabrent enclosure:
to boot Linux (independently). See my initial post:

My intention is to move it to the 5410 if my current WD internal SSD dies. Not going to spend a fortune on this combo as I can purchase an entire similar Latitude for approx $400. I have decided to go with a quality name for dependability sake.
My system came with a 2230 form factor but I understand I can I can put a 2280 SSD into the M.2 slot (without adding any new hardware) > ? btw, Not a gamer. General usage.
Read some nasty things about Sandisk's dependability > true ? My main concerns are compatibility, dependability, versatility and unknowns (eg heat in enclosure and 5410).

I had a SanDisk USB Flash-drive die (actually, it was secretly corrupting files) on me like 15 years ago and haven't knowingly bought anything from them since.
Looks like Western-Digital bought them back in 2015 (weird, but whatever). They did need a SSD-solution though I suppose. Seems like they were late to the SSD-party anyway.
I'm just posting because you did and looking for a response.
Over 10 years ago, I bought a couple Kingston 2.5" SATA-3/600 SSDs for my Apple-Macs and they worked fine. Then I started buying Samsungs. I still have an use them all (some over 10 years old).
Now-days, I just buy Samsungs. All my recent computers have multiple Samsung-Pro-NVMe.

I appreciate the post.. Yes Samsung's have a good rep but try and buy them now as a standalone item. Pricey. This Latitude (5410) appears to be rock solid with a WD SN530 2230.
Hopefully Sandisk has tried to improve cause I'm pretty sure I'm opting for the SN5000. The mentioned Sabrent enclosure has a heatsink so don't need another.
My biggest concern, and still is, is that the drive will work okay in the enclosure as a boot drive for Linux. I've looked for anything to say it won't but so far haven't found any major cons. Not overly concerned about speed bottlenecks, eg usb.
In any case thanks for posting. Any feedback is good. I hate returning stuff. Ciao

Yeah, I just use what I like. Since I keep my stuff a long time, price isn't a major factor.
