Touchpad dead zone issue
Latitude 5550
I recently received a new Latitude 5550.
I have updated everything: apps, drivers, windows etcc..
A problem persists with the touchpad that I have not encountered in
other Dell devices such as the latitude 5530.
When I touch the touchpad for the first few moments it doesn't respond to touch, then it unlocks and works perfectly until I lift my finger and put it back down. this thing repeats itself as soon as I lift my finger, even if I put it back down right away.
This does not make it easier for me in small pointer movements.
It seems that the device has a function similar to the dead zone on gamepads to prevent accidental touches.
I have tried changing various settings in the windows touchpad menu to no avail, in “device manager” > “mouse and other pointing devices” there is no item inherent to the touchpad device. But I am sure the drivers and firmware are up to date.
Can anyone help me?
thanks

If on Win11, go to settings/bluetooth and devices/touchpad and make changes to sensitivity settings there. Check under "advanced settings" under touchpad

@ECharles Thank you for the response.
Yes I have windows 11. I already tried changing the sensitivity but nothing changes. I also tried installing linux nobara to see if some windows setting was to blame but the problem persists there too. Could it be a hardware problem?

@Dragatas Certainly sounds like a hardware issue. Does the touchpad "click"?
It must still be under warranty - this might be a case for a warranty repair.

Yes It "click", it is probably a hardware problem. I can't think of anything else. I'll try to get it replaced and if so I'll update you.
Thank you
