WD19S Docking Stations - replacement USB-C cable
Dell Dock – WD19S
We have quite a few WD19S docking stations for use with out Latitudes. When I got the first batch I requested a quote for some replacement USB-C cable modules as I thought it likely that we would get damaged connectors sooner or later. The quote, as I recall, came through at about a third of the cost of a new dock, so I decided not to get any until we actually needed them (bad mistake!)
We are now in the position of having a damaged connector on one, so I contacted our account manager and asked for a quote for a new cable module. She couldn't provide it so asked the parts department, who said they only deal with laptops and desktops so couldn't help. She then tried emailing another department who ignored several emails - and so she reported back to me that she couldn't provide a quote so contact support.
I then went to support and submitted a case via TechDIrect, asking for a quote (or who to contact). What followed was a to-and-fro of emails where they repeatedly ignored the actual question and told me that they couldn't repair it under warranty as it was accidental damage (I kept repeating that I wasn't asking them to - I was asking for a quote for the part which we were quite prepared to pay for). They also kept sending me a link to the page on the Dell website where the docking stations are listed - presumably the idea was that I just throw it away and buy a new one. These are not cheap docks so I don't think this is reasonable, and indeed the user manual for the dock specifically explains how to remove the USB-C cable module so it is clearly a replaceable part.
If anyone from Dell is reading this can you please tell me how I go about getting a replacement cable module (I'll buy several so that we have spares). If I have to throw away this dock this will be the last Dell dock I ever buy - much cheaper alternatives are available, and if it's impossible to repair them when the plug gets damaged (as is clearly going to happen periodically as it's the weakest part) then I'll just get cheaper third-party ones.
Thanks
