WD19TB usb not working on startup

Hi. I have a Latitude 7410 and a WD19TB dock, running the latest Windows 10. I have peripherals and a monitor connected to the dock.

When I boot up the laptop and get to the Windows login screen, the mouse and keyboard connected to the dock do not work (the monitor does). If I plug the mouse or the keyboard directly to the laptop, they work. If I log in using the laptop keyboard, the peripherals start working, and they will still work if I go back to the Windows lock screen.

This is a bit annoying, I always want to use my USB keyboard to log in. What can I do to make this work?

Hi Ben

This Policy:

Path: Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\BitLocker Drive Encryption\Disable new DMA devices when this computer is locked

If this Policy is not enabled new Devices (all USB-Devices attached to the Docking Station) will not be available until the Computer is in an Unlocked State.  (After a fresh boot / attaching USB-Devices while locked)

I have a Latitude 7420 with Windows 11, Bitlocker encryption and WD19TB dock. I experience the same issue where USB and network only work after I log in to Windows. All firmware/drivers are updated, I have changed the BIOS settings and GPO as described in other replies, but none of them have resolved the issue for me.

ont thing to try first--- unplug POWER to dock--and replug in to see if you get everything connected.  sometimes it works....like the dock goes dumb or something and needs restart

we have had a LOT of usb-c ports go bad on the newer laptops.  seems they just aint strong enough for daily plug/unplug use.  Bad part is that we have 1000+ of these things...and sending them in all the time for repair.

and the worst part is, it takes a entire motherboard replacement to fix it.  (bad usb-c port)

That port(s) should be a user-replaceable daughterboard to the main board in my opinion

Hi Just to say that the top 2 options for me were already checked and only the bottom option wasnt...and in turn just that one option worked for me (running a 7410 here as well)

I also face this problem when I receive new laptops E5420 and E5520. I found that I can use usb on bios initerface, just can't on user login interface. I check the reason is about new feature in win10 named kernal DMA protection. If this function disabled everything is fine.  The method is closing virtualization technology on bios. I've tested it and it works.

Understand the model comes with 3 years warranty, please check if it still falls under the period else you may consider getting yourself a new docking station, these are the few models available if you're in Singapore. Get it while stock last, Cheers !

The GPO set to enabled or disabled doesn't make a difference.  Its amazing Dell pc's and Dell docks dont just work out of the box.

I could imagine if it was like an HP computer trying to run a Dell dock or vice versa.  There should be keys in the bios that automatically trusts devices from the same manufacturer.  None of that DMA GPO made any difference either.
