Availability Ubuntu on 15" Dell Laptop
Will sputnik be released on other Dell laptops in the near future? I am specifically thinking about the XPS 15 or the precision M3800.
It would be great to have a 15" laptop with Ubuntu support. I think I can not get used to developing software on a 13" laptop.

@MAARTEN_BE
Nothing official on the XPS15 but the M3800 is based on it so it should be pretty similar. Also Mark Shuttleworth just ordered one to run Ubuntu on :-)

The M3800 or XPS15? If that's true, I think I can safely order one too!!

I've done my time developing on small 12" and 13" laptops. So I was very pleased to take delivery of my new XPS15 yesterday. Great machine! It's running Windows but I'd love to dual-boot to Ubuntu (sputnik) hence would appreciate any help or How-To's on this. This would be "Developer Nirvana" for me :emotion-11:
Thanks in advance.

Hey nrg-b could you tell us your experience on installing Ubuntu? What version of the XPS15 did you get?
In Belgium the XPS15 is not available yet for purchase.

Cheers Barton, yes, I read your blog and skimmed through Jared's post. I will be reading it in detail later this weekend. May I ask is it possible to dual-boot the XPS15 to support either Win8 or Ubuntu13.10?
Thanks once again,
Bharat

I've now managed to install Ubuntu on my XPS15. I followed this guide: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI I manually configured the partitions and can now dual boot into 13.10 and Windows8. Very pleased, even the touch screen works - so far so good :emotion-11: Well done, Project Sputnik and Canonical in producing an excellent configuration.

@Barton: Cheers! As it happens, I will also buy the XPS13 Win8 version and dual boot to Ubuntu. I plan to install 13.10. I am hoping the hardware support between XPS15 and XPS13 will be similar, perhaps a bit better on the XPS13 as its an Intel HD graphics chip. What do you reckon?
By the way, Skype and Citrix Receiver work well on XPS15.

Thanks for the feedback, depending on the availability in Belgium I will buy the XPS15 or the M3800 soon. Linux support is the deciding factor in buying Dell. I am pleased to see that Linux professional grade support exists nowadays.

I've blogged about some updates on the card reader and touchscreen on the M3800: http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/b/techcenter/archive/2013/11/26/follow-up-ubuntu-on-the-precision-m3800.aspx
