Battery life readout w/o GNOME?

Question

I'd like to run an alternative WM like Fluxbox or Ratpoison, but there's no battery life widget with them. How would you find out how much battery life you have left, either with a standalone GUI program or with a command-line program?

At a terminal, type 'cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state' (without quotation marks). It won't give you pretty graphs and you'll have to use a calculator to figure out how much time you have left.

i recommend using gkrellm. http://freshmeat.net/projects/gkrellm/ it will display all the information about your computer for you in a dockable window.

I ended up settling on xmonad as my window manager with dzen running as a separate program for my status bar. It's much lighter-weight than GNOME, so I have less cause to regret only getting 512MB of RAM. Gkrellm would also be a good choice for a non-tiling WM.
